Exhibits - past Lu Beury

Valley Art Presents

"Mindscapes" - featuring artist Lu Beury

Show dates
: January 25 – March 1, 2014;
the regular collection is also available for viewing January 7 – 24th.

The Valley Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of our new show, MINDSCAPES which runs from January 25th through March 1, 2014. The exhibit features the distinctive paintings of Lu Buery, whose large, colorful abstract paintings evoke the natural landscapes that inspired them. By layering paints, sand and gesso along with intertwining metallic forms with random streaks and shapes, Beury captures the essence of textures and the patinas of objects such as bark, chipped paint and rusted iron. The final works exude excitement, energy and generate a joyous response. In addition, there’s a huge variety of work from over 100 other Bay Area artists on the gallery’s thirty rolling walls. Visitors can enjoy moving the walls and viewing the works at their own pace, or with the assistance of gallery volunteers; this extensive collection in different artistic styles, mediums and prices offers something for every art lover’s taste and budget. The gallery also features a continuously changing selection of fine crafts and jewelry, all hand crafted by Bay Area artisans. Founded in 1949, Valley Art Gallery is a volunteer run, non-profit organization that has been representing emerging and established artists of the Bay Area for 65 years. Located in downtown Walnut Creek, the gallery exhibits work in many mediums including printmaking, oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings, jewelry, wood, ceramics, photography and pastel.

Valley Art Presents

Valley Art Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of new work by featured artist Gerry Severson.

Dates: May 14 - June 21, 2013

Meet the Artist: Saturday, May 18 from 2 to 5 pm.

Gerry will be on hand to talk about his painting techniques, the subject matter that fascinates him and why he loves working in the plein air tradition.

Award winning artist Gerry Severson's work has proven to be very popular with Valley Art patrons. He captures both the beauty of the coastal California landscape and the mood of the day. A native of Humboldt County, he says "I grew up in a rural area where the outdoors was pretty much what we had for excitement. You learn to appreciate that and the experience stays with you." Gerry graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in commercial art and began his advertising career in art direction in San Francisco, moving to New York to work for several agencies over the next 30 years. His art direction won numerous awards --including a commercial that resides in the Museum of Modern Art's permanent advertising collection. Now happily retired and living in the area, he's free to pursue a long-held dream to paint the endless motifs offered up by the landscape he grew up with and loves.

"60th Anniversary Celebration"

Dates: September 29th - November 10th, 2009

Free Preview: September 27th from 3 - 6 PM

Our “60th Anniversary Celebration" show runs from September 29th to November 10th.  This juried show celebrates both the gallery's rich history and our many Bay Area artists with over 300 works of art. The show features work in oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, pastels, printmaking, mixed media, collage, sculpture, pottery, woodworking, glass and jewelry.

The gallery was founded in 1949 by a group of artists and art lovers who wanted a place in the Central County where artists could gather and exhibit their work.  Through thick and thin times and numerous venues, including a Quonset Hut and the old Walnut Creek nut hulling warehouse, the vision grew from annual outdoor art shows to a welcoming gallery with an art rental program

The Public is invited to a 60th anniversary celebration (free) and preview of the show on Sunday, September 27th from 3 - 6 PM.

For sixty years Valley Art Gallery, a true grass roots art movement in the Diablo Valley, has operated as a non-profit (501c3) volunteer organization, rising from the needs of the community.  Valley art was a pioneer in Contra Costa County in its commitment to the idea that art is a vital component of the quality of life in any community.
