Valley Art Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of new work by featured artist Gerry Severson.

Meet the Artist: Saturday, May 18 from 2 to 5 pm.

Gerry will be on hand to talk about his painting techniques, the subject matter that fascinates him and why he loves working in the plein air tradition.

Award winning artist Gerry Severson's work has proven to be very popular with Valley Art patrons. He captures both the beauty of the coastal California landscape and the mood of the day. A native of Humboldt County, he says "I grew up in a rural area where the outdoors was pretty much what we had for excitement. You learn to appreciate that and the experience stays with you." Gerry graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in commercial art and began his advertising career in art direction in San Francisco, moving to New York to work for several agencies over the next 30 years. His art direction won numerous awards --including a commercial that resides in the Museum of Modern Art's permanent advertising collection. Now happily retired and living in the area, he's free to pursue a long-held dream to paint the endless motifs offered up by the landscape he grew up with and loves.

Valley Art is the only gallery in the East Bay that offers a rental option. You can rent the work for three month intervals and apply the first year's rental fees (minus tax) to the purchase price. It's a wonderful opportunity to live with a painting before buying it -- use it as the focal point to inspire your redecoration.
