CAROL SIDEMAN

Carol Sideman's aim is to capture the essence of a place with on the spot impressions. Her watercolor sketches require interpretation and selection of the basic characteristics of a place - the ragged foothills, the rocky forms and the meandering waterways. Later these impressions are developed into oils in the comfort of her studio. There, she can relive the moment and take the time to reflect. She explores the basic elements of design, movement, values and color, and redesigns the composition. She says, " Capturing the original 'spirit of place' is the ultimate challenge! It is the driving force that keeps me painting!"

Carol Sideman has had a highly successful and diverse career in the arts j- from Art Teacher in the Junior and Senior high schools of Oakland, Calif. to Architectural Illustrator. For the past twenty years she has been a professional painter known primarily for her outstanding oils on canvas in the California "plein aire style". She also enjoys giving occasional workshops, demonstrations for art groups and has been asked to jury many art competitions.
