HOLLY CRATTY Holly Cratty paints primarily with acrylic paints on canvas but sometimes incorporates rice paper (and/or other papers), sumi ink, oil pastel, and occasionally even original photographs into her acrylic paintings. She also sometimes likes to make her paintings using alternating layers of acrylic paint and lightly sanded layers of matte acrylic gel. Holly feels that the layers add a sense of depth and history to her abstract, minimalist color fields. Holly's work is essentially celebratory in intention and focuses on natural subjects such as trees, landscapes, and the forces of nature. Her style is abstract and minimalist and usually composed of two (though sometimes more) color fields. The use of the hard-edged vertical or horizontal lines in many of Holly's paintings serve as both a visual counterpoint to and a 'container' for the organic energies expressed through color and gesture. Holly is a resident of Ukiah, California and has been a member of Valley Art Gallery for over two years. Her web site address is: home.earthlink.net/~scratty2 |
